Facebook for iPhone

Facebook

I wouldn't say i was an massive Facebook user like someone who would spend all day on Facebook and only close the window to go and eat or when the boss walks by, that too me seems like a waste of time and Facebook certainly doesn't offer that kind of time-value, However I check my Facebook page once a day just to see what people are up to, read messages, add new people who i haven't spoken too in a while or seen since primary school or leave stupid messages on people's Facebook wall.

Facebook seem to be at the front of iPhone support with their website. In 2007 when the iPhone was released Facebook quickly released an iPhone specific version of their site to be viewed via the Safari browser, then in July 2008 when Apple started allowing third party applications Facebook quickly released their iPhone app via the iTunes App Store.

I installed the Facebook application because it is something i can use while i sit in the car for my lunch, while i stand around on my break or when i spend the odd 10 minutes outside someones house with the engine running wishing they would hurry up. I like it. It works great and offers some good features including the not so old Facebook Chat all built into it.

So what features does it offer you are most likely not asking. Well here is my break down of what it has...
- Friend Statuses: Shows all the latest friend status updates
- Profiles: It has all the basic Information & Contact details
- Wall: See what has been posted on someone's wall and also leave a wall post
- Photos: Flick through your friend's photos, leave comments and see who has been tagged
- Mini-Feed: Shows all past status updates from a specific person
- Friends: See a long list of all your friends and click through to their profiles
- Chat: Chat with people who are online
- Messages: Send and Receive messages to and from friends
- Upload Photos: You can upload pictures to your Facebook Mobile Uploads folder
And after that small list of features you might be asking yourself "When will i win the lottery" and "What features doesn't it got homes". Well if you had just waited i would have told you below...
- Friend Updates: Status updates is about as good as it gets
- Photo Upload Tagging: You cannot tag someone in a photo unless you visit the Facebook site
- Share: You cannot share anything
- Photo Albums: You cannot upload photos to a new or existing Album
- Notifications: You can receive group updates or event invites and you cannot receive an update when someone posts on your wall
- Comments: You cannot leave comments on Status updates
- Videos: You cannot see videos
- Groups: No groups or fan pages
- Add Friends: You cannot add new friends or even search for new friends
- Loads more that i couldn't possibly list

As you can see Facebook is missing quite a few of their key features but do not worry Facebook 2.0 for the iPhone is said to have a lot of these features built in and the user interface is going to be changed somewhat.

Verdict
It's free so you couldn't go wrong with it, unless it breaks your phone, sets your house on fire or causes some sort of illness, but lets face it that has only ever happened once and the guy was an idiot.

Once the new version is out soon it will be much better and have lots of new features which are going to slowly turn me towards it more and more and make me use it on a daily basis to check updates.
